Emotional Aromatherapy

December 17, 2017

Essential oils and plant medicine has been used to support and heal the human body for thousands of years but did you know essential oils can trigger responses that can alter your mood? That is incredible! There is lots of science-y information here if you would like to know more about that but basically different essential oils can help alter certain moods:

  • CITRUS | Discourage, Gloomy, Distressed
  • SPICES | Somber, Disinterested, Boredom
  • HERBS or GRASSES | Bitter, Angry,  Discontent
  • TREES | Grief, Sadness, Ashamed
  • FLOWERS | Fearful, Worried, Hurt
  • MINTS | Apathetic, Insecure, Anxious
There really is an essential oil for everything, even your mood!
The way emotional aromatherapy works is you identify the emotions you are feeling and choose essential oils that can help bring your emotions into harmony. We already know which oils can help with certain emotions, so here are some examples of oils to choose from!

  • CITRUS | Lemon, Lime, Bergamot, Wild Orange, Grapefruit, Tangerine
  • SPICES | Cassia, Ginger, Clove, Black Pepper, Coriander
  • HERBS or GRASSES | Lemongrass, Vetiver, Rosemary
  • TREES | Douglas Fir, Cedarwood, Sandalwood, Pine, Arborvitae
  • FLOWERS | Chamomile, Clary Sage, Geranium, Jasmine, Lavender
  • MINTS | Peppermint, Spearmint, Patchouli

But doTERRA has made Emotional Aromatherapy easy!

The Essential Aromatics Kit comes with 6 blends they have been carefully formulated by their scientists to help balance and promote overall well-being. They come in two different kits: one with 5ml bottles or these handy pre-diluted roller bottles which I love because they can easily be thrown in my bag on our way out the door. I also wanted something easy for my eldest son to use if he felt he needed the support, with my guidance of course.

The Essential Aromatics Blends

MOTIVATE | Promotes feelings of confidence, courage and belief while counteracting negative emotions of doubt, pessimism, and cynicism. I love to apply this along my hairline when I am about to do chores, laundry or any task that I really just don't want to do and it's almost like a switch is flipped in my brain and the task is finished before I realize it!
  • In it: Peppermint, Clementine, Coriander, Basil, Yuzu, Melissa, Rosemary Leaf, Vanilla Bean.

CHEER | Promotes feelings of optimism, cheerfulness, and happiness while counteracting feeling down, blue or low. I love to wear Cheer behind my ears when I'm really in a mom funk, when we have had too many rainy days and I'm cooped up in the house too long, or during the winter months when I start feeling a little blue
  • In it: Wild Orange, Clove, Star Anise, Lemon Myrtle, Nutmeg, Vanilla, Ginger, Cinnamon, Zdravetz.

PASSION | Promotes feeling of excitement, passion, and joy while counteracting feelings of boredom and disinterest. I wear Passion every. Single. Day. on my wrists or behind my ears. Passion has really helped to keep this blog going, keeps me feeling joyful and helps to keep my blues away.
  • In it: Cardamom, Cinnamon, Ginger, Clove, Sandalwood, Jasmine, Vanilla, Damiana.

FORGIVE | Promotes feelings of relief, contentment, an patience while counteracting negative emotions of guilt and anger. I will apply Forgive to my children if they are having a rough day getting along, to help keep the calm, and have used this myself on very challenging days when their behaviors are hot!
  • In it: Spruce, Bergamot, Juniper Berry, Myrrh, Arborvitae, Nootka Tree, Thyme, Citronella.

CONSOLE | Promotes feelings of hope and comfort while counteracting feelings of sadness, grief, and hopelessness. I have used Console on a few occasions when we have had a loss in the family or when I was emotionally distraught when my father became ill, it was tough, Console really helped me get through it.
  • In it: Frankincense, Patchouli, Ylang Ylang, Labdanum, Amyris, Sandalwood, Rose, Osmanthus.

PEACE | Promotes feelings of reassurance and contentment while counteracting feelings of anxiousness and fear. I love to apply Peace to the children's feet before bed to help them doze off, before we sit down to practice penmanship, and have used this shopping during Christmapocolapyse.
  • In it: Vetiver, Lavender, Ylang Ylang, Frankincense, Clary Sage, Marjoram, Labdanum, Spearmint.

The blends really do cover all the emotions and it is so handy that they come in a kit! If you would like to purchase these, shop here. But, if you want to learn how to save 25%, keep reading!
