Homesteading Hobbies to Reduce Stress

September 03, 2017
Like many others these days, I suffer from anxiety. And it isn't any easier living 'the simple life' as a homesteader and homeschooler. There are still a ton of things that need to be done everyday and a lot of pressure as the only person responsible for educating my children.
I'm not complaining though, I thoroughly love my life and our master plan to move off grid and builda tiny homestead and I wouldn't change a thing!

We'll maybe a little less stress and anxiety would do!

Here are a few vintage skills and homesteading hobbies that conveniently help reduce stress and anxiety:

Knitting or crocheting is a no brainer! Hooking is well known and proven to relieve stress because of the repetitive muscle movement and focus required. Although, choose an easy pattern for your skill level when stressed. Choosing a new stitch or difficult pattern can actually cause you more stress!

Growing your own food or vegetable gardening are also proven to reduce stress and help the soul connect with the earth. It is also very rewarding, gives you a sense of purpose and can save you cash. Here are more vintage skills to save cash!

Saving seeds is another great way to wind down. Gathering, drying, and harvesting seeds takes time,
focus and is very rewarding when you are able to sow your own seeds in the spring.

Foraging is an unexpected way to reduce anxiety and stress. Because it requires walking around outside in nature, it is great exercise and very rewarding when you fill a bucket of wild berries!

Having fun without technology or the use of devices may not seem like a vintage skill but in out day of age we are glued to these devices which often remind us of appointments, emails, notifications we think are important. Turning off and living unplugged may take some time to get used to but can help relieve your sense of distractions or feelings of overwhelm.

Caring for animals and creating companionship is a great way to reduce stress and anxiety. We often see this bond between humans and service animals, but who says a chicken can't be a service animal!?

Why don't you ever see hippopotamus hiding in a tree? Because they're really good at it.. Powered by Blogger.
